One of the mysteries of the Bible is the fact that blood speaks. Why? Because blood represents the life of the one who shed it. If that is true, we must be sure we are aligned with the right blood and its message.
Two Bloods
22 But you have come to Mount Zion, the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels, to the assembly 23 and congregation of the firstborn, who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous, who have been made perfect, 24 and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks of something better than Abel’s does. Hebrews 12:22 – 24 NET
Here we are told of two bloods that speak, the blood of Abel and the Blood of Christ. Have you ever considered the similarities between these two individuals?
Both of them were innocent victims. They did not die because of any wrong they had done.
Both were murdered by someone else.
Both of their deaths involved bloodshed.
The blood of both men carried a distinct message. The messages, however, were very different.
Abel’s Blood
But the Lord said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying out to me from the ground!” Genesis 4:10 NET
The innocent Abel had been murdered by the jealous Cain. We are not told how he was killed. All we know is that his blood was shed, and his blood cried out to God. What was the cry of his blood?
It was the cry of accusation. “Cain murdered me!”
It was a cry for justice. “Cain is guilty and deserves to be punished!”
It was a cry for vengeance. “He deserves to have done to him what he did to me!”
Thankfully, Abel’s blood is not the only one that speaks.
The Blood of Christ
According to Hebrews 12:24 (quoted above), the Blood of Jesus Christ also speaks. The message it carries is better than the message of Abel’s blood. So, what does the Blood of Christ speak?
It speaks of intervention.
“So I will assign him a portion with the multitudes,
he will divide the spoils of victory with the powerful,
because he willingly submitted to death
and was numbered with the rebels,
when he lifted up the sin of many
and intervened on behalf of the rebels.” Isaiah 53:12 NET
It speaks of reconciliation.
19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in the Son
20 and through him to reconcile all things to himself by making peace through the blood of his cross—through him, whether things on earth or things in heaven. Colossians 1:19 – 20 NET
It speaks of redemption.
7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our offenses, according to the riches of his grace 8 that he lavished on us in all wisdom and insight. Ephesians 1:7 – 8 NET
It speaks of forgiveness.
27 And after taking the cup and giving thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you, 28 for this is my blood, the blood of the covenant, that is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. Matthew 26:27 – 28 NET
It speaks of justification.
Much more then, because we have now been declared righteous by his blood, we will be saved through him from God’s wrath. Romans 5:9 NET
The cry of Christ’s Blood silences the cry of the accuser.
10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven saying,
“The salvation and the power
and the kingdom of our God,
and the ruling authority of his Christ, have now come,
because the accuser of our brothers and sisters,
the one who accuses them day and night before our God,
has been thrown down.
11 But they overcame him
by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony,
and they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die. Revelation 12:10 – 11 NET
The Blood of Jesus Christ truly speaks far better things than the blood of Abel.
We Are Aligned
We are aligned with either the blood of Abel or the Blood of Jesus Christ. If we are pointing the finger of accusation or pursuing vengeance and justice, we are aligned with Able’s blood. If, on the other hand, we are making intercession, seeking reconciliation and redemption, or extending forgiveness, we are aligned with the Blood of Christ. We must determine which blood we are aligned with. Only those aligned with the Blood of Jesus Christ are the ones who are truly living in the Reign.
