The Beginning of Religion

How would you define religion?  I suppose there are many ways it could be defined.  Some might describe it as belief in a god or group of gods.  To others it might be an organized system of beliefs, ceremonies, and rules used in the worship of a god.  There is nothing inherently wrong with these definitions.  The one I like best, however, is provided by Bruxy Cavey in his book The End of Religion.  Bruxy writes,

“Religion is exposed as our attempts to reach God.” 1

That sums it up nicely.  But where did that start?  I believe we can find the beginning of religion within the first few pages of God’s story.

Living From Our Future

Too many of us think we are merely products of our past.  We believer our lives are simply a culmination of all the things, good and bad, that have happened to us since the day we burst on the scene.

While there is certainly some truth to that, for those of us who live under the Reign of King Jesus that is only part of the story.  Because of our union with the King we are no longer limited to our past.  Our true identity is now found in our relationship with Him and the glorious future He provides.

In this four minute video, Bruxy Cavey, Teaching Pastor at The Meeting House, shows us how we can live in our future today.  What he shares will assist us as we seek to live in the Reign.

A Witty Word on Witnessing

Do you struggle with bearing witness to your faith in Jesus Christ?  Are you afraid you won’t know what to say, or that someone might ask a question you don’t have the answer too?  If your answer is yes, I would say you are in line with the majority of those who follow the King.  Most followers struggle with their witness in one way or another.

In this short video, Brother Bruxy Cavey helps us out.  In his own witty way he takes off a lot of the pressure we put on ourselves where witnessing is concerned.  I’m sure you will be glad you took the time to watch it.

How to Keep from Being Ugly

Let’s face it, sometimes Christians are ugly.  REALLY ugly.  It can happen so easily when we focus on the wrong thing.  In the video below Bruxy Cavey, Teaching Pastor at The Meeting House, informs us how we can keep from being one of the ugly ones.
Someone once quoted Ghandi as saying, “I like your Jesus but I don’t like your Christians.”  Let’s make Christianity attractive again by focusing on Jesus and following in His footsteps.  After all, that’s what living in the Reign is all about.

Kingdom Repentance

In his book The End of Religion, Bruxy Cavey writes,

“I once say someone holding a sign that said, ‘Repent for the end is near!’  He got it wrong.  Jesus didn’t say the end was near.  He said that the kingdom of God was near.  If I repent because the end is near, then I’m just apologizing for my past in time to die and go to heaven.  But if I repent because the kingdom, the Way, the rule of God is near, then I am actively deciding to change my egocentric approach to life and joining in partnership with God to help bring about his way of love in this world.  I repent, not because the end is near, but because the beginning is here, and I want to be a part of it.

“Christ’s message of the kingdom and our response of repentance was not just a command to regret your past, but an invitation to help bring about a new future.” [1]

It would be hard to say it any better than that.  Bruxy effectively outlines the type of repentance that causes us to live in the Reign.
