Radical: very different from the usual or traditional.
There is no doubt about it being costly to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. There is one statement He makes about it, however, that sounds absolutely absurd, especially to North American Christians in the 21st century. The question is, did He really mean it? I think we should be finding out.
In the light of modern day church growth techniques, Jesus wasn’t very good at it. He had a rather strange way of responding to those who showed interest in becoming His disciples.
We do not need more teaching in order to make disciples. If teaching alone was the answer, we have enough books, seminars, CD’s, retreats, and videos to disciple the planet. What we really need is people who will model the way of the King for others in everyday life.
This amazing little video produced by foursquarecomm is a down to earth picture of what discipling should look like. It almost made me cry the first time I watched it. I hope you enjoy it.
In a previous post we discussed the fact that making disciples of all nations was the key to world transformation. But where does that process begin? Do we develop a program in church and have people sign-up? Do we incorporate it into our youth ministry? Maybe we should get a bunch of new recruits and start with them. While all these options may have merit, the starting place is more basic still.
