Some Words of Assurance

Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength,
    a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change,
    though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam,
    though the mountains tremble with its tumult.Selah

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
    the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved;
    God will help it when the morning dawns.
The nations are in an uproar, the kingdoms totter;
    he utters his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord of hosts is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our refuge.Selah

Come, behold the works of the Lord;
    see what desolations he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
    he breaks the bow, and shatters the spear;
    he burns the shields with fire.
10 “Be still, and know that I am God!
    I am exalted among the nations,
    I am exalted in the earth.”
11 The Lord of hosts is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our refuge.Selah

The Forecast
Many today are forecasting a financial storm; a crash coming sometime in September of this year. Some are saying it will make way for a one world currency. Others predict it will be a segue for the Anti-Christ. Some are hopeful for a recovery while others are more in panic mode. No one seems to really be sure what to make of it. There are voices proclaiming that it is judgment on the US for a variety of sins, although the affects of the crisis seem to be global.
Jesus Says

In the midst of whatever is going to happen, King Jesus says,

31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ 32 For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:31 – 33
These are some much needed words of assurance in this hour. Our security is not found in stockpiling food or arming ourselves to “defend what it ours.” It’s not in pulling all our money out of the bank and hiding it in the backyard or making this or that investment. While none of these things are wrong in and of themselves (although people arming themselves might fall in that category), at the end of the day our true security comes from living in the Reign.
