17 God, you have taught me from my youth,
and I still proclaim your wondrous works.
18 Even while I am old and gray,
God, do not abandon me,
while I proclaim your power
to another generation,
your strength to all who are to come. Psalm 71:17 – 18 CSB
I recently had a birthday. While birthdays were never a big deal in the past. they seem to have become a little more important in recent years. I guess I have come to realize that the numbers are not getting any smaller and that time is passing faster than I care to admit. It has really caused me to pause and take stock of things.
On my birthday I sat down with the Lord to see what He would have to say about it. The conversation that evolved was so comforting and inspiring that I felt I had to share it. What is recorded below is straight out of my journal. The impressions I received from the Lord are in italics.
It doesn’t matter how old you are.
What do You mean, Lord?
It doesn’t matter how old you are. All that matters is how available you are. I have used old men and young men, and even middle-aged men. The common denominator among them was that they would obey Me exactly. If you will keep yourself in the place of being available and obedient, it will never matter how old you are.
All I could do was give thanks in response. How comforting it is to know that no matter how old we grow to be, we can always be of use to the Lord so long as we are living in the Reign.
