What Really Happened Here?


While I normally don’t blog on Saturdays, I decide it would be prudent for me to weigh in on recent development in the United States.

On June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court of the United States voted to legalize same sex marriage in all 50 States of the Union. While there have been, and will be, all kinds of responses to their decision, I would like to call God’s people to a well reasoned and logical response based on the fact that we are His first and foremost.

The Beginning of Religion


How would you define religion?  I suppose there are many ways it could be defined.  Some might describe it as belief in a god or group of gods.  To others it might be an organized system of beliefs, ceremonies, and rules used in the worship of a god.  There is nothing inherently wrong with these definitions.  The one I like best, however, is provided by Bruxy Cavey in his book The End of Religion.  Bruxy writes,

“Religion is exposed as our attempts to reach God.” 1

That sums it up nicely.  But where did that start?  I believe we can find the beginning of religion within the first few pages of God’s story.

To Whom Is Our Allegiance?

There has been some talk on and off as to whether or not a follower of Jesus Christ should recite the United States Pledge of Allegiance.  You can find Benjamin Corey’s post on it here.  Bob Ekblad also wrote an excellent post about it in 2008 which can be read here.  While I am not going to weigh in one way or another on the debate, it does cause me to ask the question, “To whom is our allegiance?”

Is It Time to Change the Label?


People use labels to identify themselves all the time.  Conservative.  Liberal.  Gay.  Straight.  Canadian.  American.  The list is endless.  Every time we hear one of those labels, it evokes an image in our minds based on what we know (or think we know) of people who bear them.  The image can be positive or negative, based on our opinion or experience.  I wonder what comes to mind when someone labels themselves a Christian?

When Wars Will Cease

Today is the day in Canada when we pause to remember all those who have given their lives in war for the sake of our country.  Millions of young men and women have paid the ultimate price in the cause of preserving freedom and ending oppression.  Even as you are reading this, there are countless numbers of people who are dying because they are caught in some sort of conflict.  Will this ever end?  Thankfully, the Gospel of God’s Kingdom points to a time when wars will cease
