Chapters and Verses

Let me begin by saying that I absolutely love the Bible. I have read it, pondered it, and preached it for almost 40 years. It is still as fresh and alive to me today as it was in the beginning.

While I have no problems with the Bible itself, I do have some issues with its formatting.  I have to wonder if the chapters and verses are sometimes more of a hindrance than a help.

It’s That Time of Year Again…

Well, it’s that time of year again.  Scary masks and all kinds of disgusting looking paraphernalia line the shelves of various retail outlets.  Kids are getting excited over the night when they can go out and plunder the neighborhood for loads of candy.  Sounds like fun, right?  (Not to mention fattening!)

Over the years I have posted my concerns about God’s people participating in Halloween.  The responses have been varied.  Some have agreed whole-heartedly.  Others have thought I was from the dark ages and deserved to be pitied.  All I am asking is that you take an honest look at what I have to share.  You are then free to draw your own conclusions.

Do You Know God?

Do you know God?

I mean, do you really know the Lord?

You may respond, “Oh yes, I have known the Lord for many years.”

Really?

Are you sure?

How can a person know if they really know the Lord, or if they simply know about Him?

Fortunately for us the apostle John provides the answer in 1st John 2:3 – 6.

And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.  ESV

So…what do you think?  Do you really know the Lord according to what John writes?  It appears to me that truly knowing God comes only as a result of daily living in the Reign.

How to Keep from Being Ugly

Let’s face it, sometimes Christians are ugly.  REALLY ugly.  It can happen so easily when we focus on the wrong thing.  In the video below Bruxy Cavey, Teaching Pastor at The Meeting House, informs us how we can keep from being one of the ugly ones.
Someone once quoted Ghandi as saying, “I like your Jesus but I don’t like your Christians.”  Let’s make Christianity attractive again by focusing on Jesus and following in His footsteps.  After all, that’s what living in the Reign is all about.
