How precious is your steadfast love, O God!
    The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They feast on the abundance of your house,
    and you give them drink from the river of your delights.
For with you is the fountain of life;
    in your light do we see light. Psalm 36:7 – 9 ESV

Are You Listening?

bible-879086_1280 I have written in another post about my love for reading the Bible. However, I have to confess that I sometimes get so caught up with reading that I fail to slow down and really listen to what is being said. In those times I am not really engaging with the Lord, or allowing Him to engage with me. What is the solution?

In my last post I wrote about how we must learn to walk by the Spirit if we are going to truly live under the government of God. While it may sound impractical or even a little other-worldly, it is a skill we must develop.  In this post I want to provide you with the key to walking by the Spirit through a very familiar passage of Scripture.

The title of this post may seem like a strange question to ask.  I’m assuming, of course, that the majority of you know how to walk physically, unless some disability prevents you from doing so.  Those of us seeking to live our lives under the government of God, however, are called to walk a particular walk.  Do you know how to walk in that way?

What’s Going On?

Have you ever been in a situation where you were not sure what was going on around you?  Things may have seemed confusing, or even a bit frightening.  During those moments it’s a good time to ask the Lord, “What’s going on?”

Just One Word

When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.”

“Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear!  Luke 5:4 – 6 NLT

One word from the Lord changes everything.  Simon and his partners (fishermen by trade) had done everything they could do in their own strength.  Their results?

Zero.

Yet by obeying one simple command from King Jesus, a command that made no sense to them, they experienced results beyond their wildest dreams.

What have you exhausted yourself on without seeing results?  Why not stop your striving, look up, and listen to what the Lord has to say about it?  Be sure to follow it through, even if it makes no sense at the moment.  Obey Him and see what He does.  That’s called living in the Reign.
