Chaos dominates our world. Everywhere we look there is turmoil. One nation oppresses another. Economies rise and fall like the waves of the sea. The weather seems completely out of control. Governments are deadlocked over policies. One generation cannot see eye-to-eye with another. Families split apart. Children are pulled back and fort between parents, causing them to live in a state of complete confusion. Church leaders crash and burn on almost a weekly basis. Instability seems to abound on every level of life. Where does all this chaos come from?
We have all heard it said that there are two sides to every story, and the truth is somewhere in the middle. I’m not sure I believe that anymore.
I believe every story has three sides. My side. Your side. God’s side. Guess where the truth lies.
That means we can only get to the truth by living in the Reign.
It never ceases to amaze me how the King could take such simple things from everyday life and use them to profoundly illustrate the Kingdom of God. But that is the true essence of a parable. It takes something ordinary and throws it alongside a spiritual truth in order to make it come alive in the minds of those who have ears to hear. In this post we will look at a picture the King took from the kitchens of the day to help us understand how the Kingdom progresses.
We live in the midst of a hostile society. Dominated by the evil one (1st John 5:19), everything in the world system works in complete opposition to the nature of God (1st John 2:16). And they hate it when we say anything about it. So how do we oppose the corruption of society in the Spirit of the King?
Not everyone is going to be pleased when we decide to live in the Reign. In fact, it can bring a very uncomfortable division between us and those we love.
