Who is this Child?

At the Advent season, there is a question that presents itself and demands an answer.  It is a question that must be answered by every age and generation.  The question is this:  “Who is this Child?”  Who is this Child whose birth gave rise to a holiday that is celebrated all over the world?  Who is this Child that has sparked so much controversy and debate?  Who is this Child that some faithfully adhere to and others despise?  We don’t have to go far to find the answer.

According to the Scriptures
This Child is…
The One conceived by the Holy Spirit – Mathew 1:20
The One who saves us from our sins – Matthew 1:21
The One born of a virgin – Matthew 1:23
God with us – Matthew 1:23
The Heir to David’s throne – Luke 1:32
King over a never ending Kingdom – Luke 1:33
The Son of God – Luke 1:35
Our Savior, Christ the Lord – Luke 2:11
The One bringing peace & good will to men – Luke 2:14
The King of the Jews – Matthew 2:2
Who Do You Say He Is?
Everything turns on who we declare this Child to be.  There is no middle ground.  We cannot simply be indifferent to this Child’s identity.  He is either a child like any other, or He is the appointed King of God’s Kingdom.  To simply disregard His is a fatal error.  To fall before Him in adoring faith and worship is to find eternal life.  Those who embrace Him as King are those who will find themselves living in the Reign.
