We are followers of Jesus Christ. This sets us apart and makes us distinct from all the other people on the planet. So lets take moment and discuss what that really means.
The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.” John 1:43
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27
We Have Heard the Call
This means much more than simply hearing the words, “Follow Me.” As everyone knows, it is possible to hear what someone says and completely miss the message. Instead, to say we have heard the call means there is no doubt in our minds as the what the King is asking of us. Therefore, we have made an informed decision to follow Him knowing full well the implications of doing so, including the cost involved.
We Actually Follow Jesus
We come from many different pathways. What makes us unique is that we have forsaken whatever roads we previously walked on in order to fall in line behind the King. Every day we set our focus on the King, ignoring all the other voices that clamor for our attention. With our focus set, we follow wherever He leads. The entire flow of our lives is defined by following the King.
We Are a Company of Followers
This is the Church. We are those who have been called out from among all others to be followers of the King. Following Jesus is our common ground. Our leaders are simply fellow followers showing others how to follow. As long as we continue to follow the King, we all walk together in the same direction.
Not Just a Title
Follower is not just a title we wear. It is the very definition of our lives. Life for us is eyes forward, focused on the King, following Him wherever He leads in company with those who follow Him as well. Together we are living in the Reign, because we are followers of Jesus. How about you?
