The Most Neglected Gift

15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” John 14:15 – 17 ESV

Conscious

As people we are conscious of a lot of things like needs, wants, desires, appetites, and pressures. This is perfectly normal. However, as the people of God, the one thing we are often not conscious of is the Presence of God’s Holy Spirit in our lives. The One we should be the most conscious of seems to be the One we are least conscious of. This is one of the great reasons for the lack of spirituality among God’s people. The One who could bring us into a greater spiritual experience is the One who has been set on the sidelines and neglected.

More Than Ever

We really cannot afford to let this happen, especially in the day we live in. We need the help of the Holy Spirit now more than ever. We must be able to hear His voice and follow His lead. We desperately need His empowering for ministry. He has always been the key to surviving in this world. He still is. He will make the Cross real to us. He will release the power of the Resurrected Christ in our lives. He will bring us into the actual experience of victory instead of merely showing us victory as a doctrine.

How?

The question is, how do we cultivate a greater awareness of the Holy Spirit’s Presence? We start by humbling ourselves. We have to recognize how desperately we need Him. Once we recognize that, everything else will rapidly fall into place. We will begin to pursue Him and cultivate His companionship. Let’s start there and see what happens. If we let Him, the Holy Spirit will guide us into an expanding experience of living in the Reign.
