When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said to him, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless.” Genesis 17:1 NRSV
The Key
Walking with God moment-by-moment is the key to all of life. This is the prayerful life the Lord wants all of His people to live. Too many live with Him in fits and starts. When trouble comes they will walk with the Lord through it, then they will slowly drift off on their own. Others will sometimes walk closer with the Lord as the result of a moving sermon or song. Once the emotion passes, however, they lack the discipline to continue the walk.
Walking in the Spirit
Walking in the Spirit means walking under the Spirit’s influence in all of life. This means we must commune with the Lord in every circumstance. We must therefore be present to Him and what He is doing in every situation we encounter. That means being alive in the moment, living in the now.
A Discipline to Develop
Walking with God day-by-day, moment-by-moment, is a discipline we desperately need to develop. We simply cannot afford to live in any other way. It is vital to living in the Reign.
