Knowing God

Disarming Trouble

Eliphaz, one of Job’s “comforters,” hit the nail with his head when he said,

6 For affliction does not come from the dust,
nor does trouble sprout from the ground,
7 but man is born to trouble
as the sparks fly upward.  Job 5:6 – 7

It’s true.  We generally do not have to go looking for trouble, trouble will find us without any help.  The good news, as stated in my last post, is that we are at the mercy of no one but God.  Therefore, depending on how we respond, we can actually disarm trouble when it comes knocking and turn it from a stumbling block into a stepping stone.

The Day That Changed Everything 3

Everything changed the day Jesus Christ was born as a babe in Bethlehem.  One of the things that changed was our view of God.  The God enshrouded in the mystery of history stepped into our world and introduced Himself to us in the Person of His Son.  Our view of God would never be the same as a result.

Do You Know God?

Do you know God?

I mean, do you really know the Lord?

You may respond, “Oh yes, I have known the Lord for many years.”

Really?

Are you sure?

How can a person know if they really know the Lord, or if they simply know about Him?

Fortunately for us the apostle John provides the answer in 1st John 2:3 – 6.

And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.  ESV

So…what do you think?  Do you really know the Lord according to what John writes?  It appears to me that truly knowing God comes only as a result of daily living in the Reign.
