The votes have been cast. The political commercials are now silent. Officials have been elected into offices of political power. But, now that it is all said and done, who is really in charge?
Only One Eternal Sovereign
The LORD has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all.Psalm 103:19 ESV
While the Lord may not hold an actual political office located in any country of the world, He still reigns as King over all that exists.
For your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. You rule throughout all generations.Psalm 145:13a NLT
The Lord’s Kingdom will endure forever. There is never a time when He will be voted out of office or abdicate His throne.
For kingship belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations.Psalm 22:28 ESV
It is the Lord who ultimately rules over the nations. All other authorities exist only by His permission and will one day give an account to Him.
Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.Psalm 2:10 – 12 ESV
For now we eagerly await the day when the Kingdom of God will come in fullness and we will reign together with Him.
Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.” And the twenty-four elders who sit on their thrones before God fell on their faces and worshiped God, saying,
“We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, who is and who was, for you have taken your great power and begun to reign. The nations raged, but your wrath came, and the time for the dead to be judged, and for rewarding your servants, the prophets and saints, and those who fear your name, both small and great, and for destroying the destroyers of the earth.”Revelation 11:15 – 18 ESV
Our Pledge of Allegiance
At the end of the day kingdoms rise and kingdoms fall. Politicians come and go. Therefore our pledge of allegiance must always and forever be to the One who will reign forever and always, as so beautifully penned by Phil Kniss:
I pledge allegiance to Jesus Christ,
and to God’s Kingdom for which He died–
one Spirit-led people the world over,
indivisible, with love and justice for all.
May this be written indelibly over the door of our hearts as we move past the election and continue living in the Reign.
Excellent! Love the pledge at the end – now THERE’S a pledge I can make! (Never understood pledging to a flag…)
I’ll be sharing this with my American friends.
Thanks!

Glad you enjoyed it Kim. That pledge is powerful isn’t it? I am thinking of making a desktop background with it for my computer.
Thanks for sharing!
