The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him,
and he makes known to them his covenant. Psalm 25:14 ESV
What It Is
The fear of the Lord is the knowledge that we will one day stand before Him and give an account of our lives. It is knowing that we live under His constant gaze, and that there is never a time when we are apart from Him. It is knowing that we are the creatures and He is the Creator. It is knowing that we have been designed for a specific purpose, and that the Lord will never be fully satisfied until it is accomplished.
What It Does
The fear of the Lord creates within the soul both a sense of trembling and delight. It creates trembling because it recognizes that the omnipotent God has called us to Himself, and that we owe our existence, both physically and spiritually, to Him. It creates delight through the recognition that there is no greater Companion to have.
Embrace It
The fear of the Lord is not something for us to shun or spurn. It is something to be pursued and embraced. When we possess it we will experience delights no other earthly mortal could ever know. We will be lifted to a whole new level of living in the Reign.
